On this page we will inform about what is going on at the stud

October 17th

Little Albert has now left for Austria. His new owners are very happy with him, and thats always nice to hear.
This means we now only have 3 stallion left.

One of these is our little Arthur, who we brough to the performance test yesterday.
Mette has driven and trained him for the test, and it went very well.
He got some very good points and a 1st prize!

Actually all the stallions we have bred, that have been entered in the performance test, have recieved 1st prizes, which we ofcourse are very proud of.
We focus a lot on a good temperment in our breeding, and it is nice to see the result.

Thank you very much to Mette, for the excellent showing of our little boy.
Now we just have to cross our fingers for May, when he is going to the stallions assesment.
His points from the test are now in his own page.

September 8th

This weekend we went to the Foal and Youngstock Show in Roskilde with Naomi, Jo-Jo and Ronja.
It went pretty well even though we thought they were pretty tough on the minis.
Our little Naomi was forst in her class with lovely 39 points.
We had a great day with nice weather and good company.
The girls pages have been updates with the results, and some pictures from the day.

We have also covered another mare, since we don't wan't lonely foal next year, but we frgot to put it on the services page, so this is hereby done.
We chose Blondie, who has been covered by Moonlightning, since we with the assesment of Buzz and Bambi this year, have confirmed that this is a good combination.
So now hopefully we can look foreward to two foals next year.

August 17th

The summer is in full swing, even though it hasn't really been actual summer weather, and we have had to bring the ponies up from the summer pasture several times because of floods.
Hopefully the weather will improve before the summer is over.

Soon its time for the Roskilde youngstock show. Last year we didn't enter any ponies because we were in Africa, but this year we have entered Jo-Jo, Ronja and Naomi.
It will be interesting to see what the judges think of them.

July 24th

Now we have driven Robyn to Bakkehave Stud, where she is going to be covered with the lovely stallion, Bakkehaves Jumbaldi, before she leaves for France.
We are going to miss her and her great personality.

Luckily we can still enjoy little Albert for a while yet, before he leaves for his new home in Austria, sometime in September.

On the frontpage you see our little Viktorine, just one of the lovely mares we still have for sale.

Many of the ponies have new pictures on their pages, so please take a look around our website.

July 17th

Friday we went to the mares assesment, and for the first time in many years we didn't have any ponies with us.
Therefore we had plenty of time to chat and enjoy ourselves and ofcourse cheer, since Gunhild and Claus had entered little Bambi, who they bougth from us as a foal, back in 2005.
Bambi is also a full sister to our lovely stallion Buzz, which ofcourse didn't make in any less interesting.
Bambi placed 2 out of 3 just behind the lovely miniature champion Bakkehaves Jamilah, and she recieved 40 points!!
It is always fun when ponies you have bred does well, and we are so happy for Gunhild and Claus.

In the ring was also Bambi's first little foal, a lovely little filly foal: Lilleløkkes Gaia, who as we have said, is sired by good old Boogie.

We have also sold another pony. Soon we will have to say goodbye to lovely Robyn, who is going o France, after she has been covered by the charming little stallion: Bakkehaves Jumbaldi.
Robyn has the best possible temperment and we are sure she will have a great home with her new family in France.

Kanel has been removed from the sales page because she got laminitis, and we have therefore decided to keep her.
We do not think it is fair on the possible new owner or on Kanel, to sell her, as there ofcourse is a risk she will get laminitis again. So she is staying here with us.
However there are still lots of lovely mares on the sales page, so please have a look.

We have als had a few more mares in for coverings. A nice palomino and white mare, Sugar and Cream, has come to visit Lille Lys, and Anna's mushroom mare Zilver Sun v.d. Nijkamphoeve has returned for a visit with Buzz, since Anna is very pleased with the quality of their foal this year, Shady Acres Zita.

June 28th

he last couple of days we have had our granddaughter staying with us. She isn't affraid of anything, and loves to help out with the animals.

Here are also some pictures of our lovely little Ella. She is growing so fast.

June 21st

Boogie has been sold.
Gunhild and Claus from Lilleløkkes Stud had Boogie for a visit last year, where he mannaged to get their little mare Bambi in foal.
In the time he spent with them, they grew so fond of him, that they have now decided to buy him.
We couldn't have wished for at better ome for our good old boy. He will have a great home there, with Gunhild, Claus and their other ponies.
We will drive him to his new home this afternoon, and we will bring home with us, Boogies daughter from 2009, Lilleløkkes Fiona. She will spend the summer with us, while Boogie is covering Bambi at home.
Little Fiona is for sale by the way. A beautiful little minimally piebald mare sired by Kerswell Buccaneer out of Bakkegaard's Silke.
We will try to take some pictures of her for the sales page soon.

June 16th

Now the summer has really arrived and the ponies are enjoying their time in the meadows.
We have covered Kanel with Lille Lys, and she will most likely be the only mare we are going to cover this year.

We have also recieved another couple of mares to be covered by Buzz. Gunhild and Claus from Lilleløkkes Stud, came by with Bakkegaard's Silke and Bakkegaard's Fanny-Fine. They bought both mares from us, several years ago, so its always great to see them again. Fanny we already saw at the 2009 Mares Assesment on Zealand where she became best mini mare of the day.

We have also sold little Albert. We were very tempted to keep him ourselves, but since we have to sell some ponies, and the interest in little Albert has been immense, we finally descided to sell him after all. So he is going to Austria in about 4 weeks.

Some other very happy news is that Lille Lys' girlfriend from last year, Skovdigets Golden Geisha, has finally had her first foal. A beautiful little palomino filly. So now both the mares, Bambi and Geisha, who had not earlier been able to get in foal, are now lovely mommies, thanks to Boogie and Lille Lys respectively. This makes us very proud.

June 5th

Now we have been to the stallions assesment. We left on friday and the day started very poorly, because Arthur managed to do a stunt, just as we had loaded him in the horse float, and got one of his front legs stuck. When we got him loose he was lame, and therefore he had to stay home.
So Buzz was loaded by himself, and we headed for Fredericia, where he was put up for the night. The next morning it all began. The judges were very tough but mostly fair. They certainly didn't just give the points away, and as the day progressed, and more and more very lovely stallions got quite low scores, we got more and more worried. Buzz measured in at 88 cm, and was therefore put in the medium size group, with some VERY big boys. Poor little Buzz looked quite puny in comparison, but he did very well. As usual he behaved perfectly, and ended up as number 5 out of 11 with 39 points. Very good compared to the overall scores given that day.

We are so proud of our little Buzz. He is just amazing. And the best part about him is his amazing temperment.
Thank you to Mette for showing our little boy at the assesment.
With us home from the assesment we had a little mare who had travelled all the way from northern Jutland, to be covered by Buzz. So is was a very good thing that he did us proud and passed the assesment.
The lovely little Pamela of Duke Stable is a 1. premie kroom mare from Holland, so it will be very interesting to see the result next year. On sunday, Annexgårdens Anne arrived for her summer flit with Buzz. She is also a very lovely mare who produces great foals, so again it will be interesting to see the foal next year.

Lille Lys' girlfriend, Aglaia, has gone home, but he had already got a new one. Elverhøjs Askepot, is a lovely little golden dun mare. She was group winner at Dorthealyst at 1 year old, and recived 40 points as a 2 year old. So hopefully her date with Lille Lys will result in a lovely little foal next year.
Mette and Alberte from Stutteri Elverhøj, also have some great little ponies for sale. Have a look at our sales page.

Home again after the stallions assesment, we were pleased to see that Arthur was no longer lame. Now he was busy running around looking at Buzz and his new lady friends, but because of his little stunt earlier, he can now only look on with envy. At least until next year, when he will get another chance.

On June 1st we got a new member in the family, as we went to Jutland to get our lovely little Ella. She is a spirited little Broholmer puppy, and she had already setteled in at Bakkegaarden. Pictures will follow soon :)

May 17th

Even though we still haven't had anymore foals ourselves, we are very pleased, that two of our stallions havebecome fathers last week.
The night between saturday and sunday, Anna's little mare Zilver, gave birth to a beautiful little filly foal sired by Buzz. It is Buzz first offspring, and she looks lovely.
Now we are just excited to see how Buzz does at the Stallions Assesment on saturday.

Shady Acres Zita

On thursday, Gunhild and Claus' little mare, Bambi, gave birth to at beautiful little black filly foal. Gunhild and Claus bought Bambi from us back in 2005.
They have not mannaged to get her in foal before, but a little visit from our great old guy, Boogie, was just what she needed. We are so happy for them.

Lille Lys also had a visit from a mare last year, who after several years of trying, still hadn't mannaged to get in foal. We have now been informed that her udder has started to fill in, so it will be very exciting to see if Lille Lys has also mannaged to "do the deed" just like Boogie did.

Last year Buzz also had a visit from the lovely mare Annexgården's Anne, but we have now received the sad news that the foal has died. It was a lovely big black or smokey black colt foal, and ofcourse the owners Mette and Alberte are very sad. Anne is therefore returning on sunday after the assesment, so she can enjoy the company of Buzz again this year.

May 14th

Home again after a wonerful trip to Africa, and spring has arrived in Denmark!
It is so lovely. 4 little ducklings and a little chick has seen the light of day so far.
May 1st, Lille Lys had some lady company, when Annagaard Aglaia arrived.

They soon became friends, and are having a good time together, while the other mares look on with envy

All the ponies have now been let out into the meadows. Except the pregnant mares and ofcourse Buzz and Arthur, who are going to the stallions assesment on saturday.

The mares thoroughly enjoyed being let out into the meadows

The young stallions have also been let out in to the meadows.
Little Albert, and Annas colt Zodiac, have been put together with Sandman and Florian, and the boys are having the time of their life ;)

Sandman was supposed to be sold and going to his new owner on may 1st, but because of some uncertainties with the buyer, we decided not to sell. However he has already found himself a new owner afterall. Dorthe is a very nice girl, hwo fell completely for little Sandman, so we are very happy she is his new mommy.
Sandman will stay with us, until Dorthe is ready to bring him home.

Good old Boogie has also been let out in the meadows. He looks amazing for his 18 years.

Some of the ponies have also gotten a few new pictures on their pages.
Albert, Arthur, Boogie, Ronja, Linda, Sandman, Kanel, Lille Lys, Mini-Mai, Viktorine, Nappeline.

April 10th

Now its almost 2 months since the last update.
In that time we have had to say goodbye to our beloved dog Doris, so now in a little over a year, we have lost 3 of our 4 beloved dogs.
Only little Martha is left. Luckily she is doing very well.

Last week we delivered Leon and his best friend Noah to their new home. We are sure they will have a very nice life there.
Little Sandman has also been sold, and we are delivering him to his new owner on the 1st of may, when I get back from Africa. See I am leaving for Africa today, and won't be back until the 28th of April.

We have had to realize that we have reached a certain age, and we can't handle as much as we could when we were younger. We have therfore decided to move somewhere smaller, which means I have had to make a hard decision, and put a lot of the ponies up for sale. It has been very hard to chose, who to keep and who to sell.
The sales page has now been updated.
Until I return from Africa on Aril 28th, I ask you to contact Anna, if you have questions about, or are interested in any of the poines on the sales page.
You can also arrange with her if you want to come see them. Her phone number and email adress is on the sales page.

Buzz and Arthur have now been entered into the stallion assesment in may, so it will be very inte resting how they do.

February 12th

I guess the bad times weren't over afterall.
Only a few days after our last update, Blondie had her foal. A beautiful little cremello colt.
Unfortunately he was probably what is called a "dummy-foal", and therefore had a hard time suckling. Even with us helping him eat, he just got weaker and weaker, and only 1½ days old, he quietly died in his sleep, 5 minutes before the vet arrived :(
By now we are almost afraid to believe that things will get better.

We now have only to more foals on the way, if Viktorine and Mini-Mai are in fact in foal. We cross all our fingers that the last foals will arrive without problems.

Since we have chosen to keep all the foals from last year, we have to sell some of our mares. We have e few on the sales page already, and have now also decided to put Rose up for sale, since we are retaining both her daughter, Ronja, and her sister, Jo-Jo, at the stud. Therefore she has ben put on the sales-page.

February 2nd

Another year has passed and a new one has begun.
2011 definately didn't get of to the best start here at Bakkegaarden.
We had 3 mares that were due to foal here in end january - start february.
On january 17th at 4.20 in the morning, Surprise started foaling. Exited we head for the stable and call Anna. Even before Anna get here, we realize that not everything is as it should be, so we call the vet. The vet arrives at around 5.30 just as the water breaks. She quickly finds af head and two front feet, and we start pulling. We end up pulling for almost 2½ hours before the vet finally mannage to turn the foal 180 degrees so we can pull it out by the hind feet at a little past eight in the morning. To our, and the vets, big amazement the foal was still alive!! A lovely little chestnut filly foal.
We did everything we could for Surprise and the little foal: fluids, antibiotics, tetanut serum, tube fed the foal with colostrum and so forth, and then called our own vet Anders to come during the day, to check on them.
The foal had been pulled so much with chains by the front legs, that she couldn't stand on them, and Surprise got worse and worse the following couple of days, so we ended up decinding to put her to sleep, beacuse of all her pain :(
The foal was bandaged and splinted, in the hope of getting her on her feet.
A few days later Linda suddenly developed hyperlipemia, and almost died. We fought and fought to save her and our vet Anders almost had to move in outhere, in the struggle to save Linda and the foal.
After a few days, Linda aborted her otherwise fully finnished filly foal :(
As the days passed Linda slowly got better and suddenly the little foal could stand, without bandages or splints!
We decided to call the little princess Victoria, because it was definately a victory, that she not only survived the difficult birht and the loss of her mother, but also mannaged to struggle her way on to her feet.

It now seems that both Linda ans little Victoria is over the worst, and Victoria has even gotten a new mother, beacause our lovely mare Jasmin who loves babies, happily adopted the little foal. She doesn't have any milk, because her own foal from last year, Jo-Jo, was already weaned, but otherwise she is a perfect substitute mother to little Victoria. And the food will just have to be provided my her "other mother" Kate ;)

The last mare due to foal here in january-february is Blondie, and now her udder is starting to fill in, so hopefully we will soon have a healthy little foal to play with Victoria.

Otherwise, not much has happened. We have weaned the foals from last year, and build them a nice little kindergarden in the barn.

And with a walkway from there to their paddock, it is easy to let the little rascals out to play

Buzz thinks its very nice to have some neighbours to talk to. He is by him self because he is going to the stallion assement this spring, which we are very excited about.

We got an email from Jaqueline from Sweitzerland, who has a lovely little stallon for sale. Jaqueline is the one who helped us last year with the sale of Sorcerer. We have put info and pictures on our sales page, so if anyone is interesting in a great little golden dun mini stallion please have a look.

Other than that, I guess there is not much else to say, exept "all is well that ends well"

We look ahead and hope that 2011 will be much better from here on out!!
